WP Dienstplan is volunteer scheduling software for fire departments, emergency services, and community organizations.

Less coordination for the planners.
More flexibility for your team.
A schedule you can count on.

Sound familiar?

"Friday night, group chat: Who can cover tomorrow?"

Shifts get filled by whoever replies first. Everyone else gets a phone call. And somehow, it all lands on one person.

"The spreadsheet is outdated – again."

Three versions floating around. Nobody knows which one is current. The coordinator maintains it alone – after hours, unpaid.

"It's always the same people."

No visibility into who covered what. Motivation drops. Arguments start. And the quiet ones just keep picking up the slack.

"Data privacy? Let's not go there."

Member data lives in WhatsApp groups and Google Sheets. Everyone knows it's a problem. But there's no better option – right?

The schedule runs – without you chasing people.

You see open shifts at a glance in the dashboard. Your members sign up themselves. If someone can't make it, they swap – without calling you first.

You're not introducing a new tool. WP Dienstplan is a plugin for your existing WordPress site. Your members open the page, see their schedule, and act. You stop being the bottleneck.

WP Dienstplan Dashboard – weekly overview showing open shifts and coverage at a glance
Alexander Nusselt – Founder of WP Dienstplan

Born from volunteering – built for volunteers.

I'm Alexander Nusselt. In 2003, a fellow firefighter and I wrote the first online scheduling system for our newly formed First Responder unit – because nothing out there worked.

As chairman of the Kalchreuth Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the Bavarian Red Cross (BRK) Erlangen-Höchstadt, I experienced first-hand how much organisational burden falls on team leaders when the right tools are missing.

Today I serve as a psychosocial emergency responder with the Crisis Intervention Team (KIT) in Munich and I know: volunteers need simple solutions that hold up in everyday life – not software that creates new problems.

You stop chasing. They start owning.

No more follow-up calls

Open shifts are highlighted in the dashboard. Whoever can, signs up in the calendar or trades. You don't have to call everyone individually.

Nobody can say "I didn't know"

Everyone sees their schedule – in the dashboard, the weekly view, on their phone. If you're on duty, you know it. No room for confusion.

The right person in the right spot

Qualifications are stored in the system. If someone doesn't hold the right one, they don't see the shift. No misassignments, no back-and-forth.

Your data stays on your server

Everything lives in your WordPress database. No third-party vendor, no US cloud. You decide who has access. Full stop.

Five problems this plugin solves.

Open shifts don't go unnoticed.

When a shift opens up, qualified members get an email. No chasing, no forgetting. The shift gets filled before you even think about making calls.

Basic & Pro

Swapping without the coordinator.

Can't make your shift? Offer it for swap. Another member picks it up – one click, done. You don't have to coordinate anything.

Basic & Pro

Nobody signs up for a shift they can't cover.

Qualifications are built in – SCBA operators, team leads, paramedics, or your own custom roles. If someone doesn't hold the right cert, the shift doesn't even show up.

Basic & Pro

Fair distribution instead of guesswork.

Stats show who covered what – by period and shift type. Transparency for the team, and hard numbers for billing or reporting.

Pro

Traceable when it matters.

Every change to the schedule is logged – date, time, user. For organizations that answer to a municipality, a board, or a regulatory body.

Why WordPress?

No new tool to introduce

Your organization already has a WordPress site. WP Dienstplan is a plugin for it. No new login, no training, no learning curve.

Your data stays yours

Everything lives in your own database. No third party sees your member data. No cloud dependency. Data protection stays in your hands.

No vendor lock-in

You update when you're ready. You decide who gets access. And if the price ever changes, you keep your data.

For the people who end up sorting out the schedule.

Straightforward. No surprises.

Quick answers to common questions.

What do I need to get started?
A WordPress website running PHP 8.1+ and WordPress 6.3+. No special hosting, no VPS – most standard shared hosting plans work fine.
Is my members' data safe?
All data stays exclusively in your own WordPress database – on your server, under your control. The plugin does not transfer any member data to us or to third parties; there is no external cloud and no US servers. GDPR-compliant operation (consent records, retention periods, data processing agreement with your host, privacy notice) is your responsibility as the operator of your website – we provide guidance in the plugin documentation. The same applies whether you're building a shift schedule for your fire department or an EMS shift schedule.
Can I try it before I buy?
Yes, two ways: The live demo shows the plugin in action – no sign-up needed. Or install the free version on your own site. It stays free forever.
What happens if I don't renew my license?
You simply continue with the free version. Basic or Pro features get deactivated, but your data – rosters, members, everything – stays fully intact. Nothing gets lost.
Does the license renew automatically?
Yes, for another year each time. You can cancel anytime up to one month before renewal – through the customer portal or by emailing info@wp-dienstplan.de. You'll get a reminder in advance.
How do I get updates?
Same as any WordPress plugin: when a new version is available, it shows up in your WordPress admin. One click, done.

Before the next roster goes out via group chat.

Install the free version and see for yourself. Or try the live demo – no sign-up, no risk.
